Seeing Your Life Through a Cinematic Lens

If your life was a movie, what kind of story would it be? A grand adventure? An emotional drama? A quirky indie film?

When I used to work at KOMO TV, I was always surrounded by cameras and stories – so I was often imagining my life as if it was a movie. It honestly makes even the most ordinary moments feel cinematic – as if my life is an unfolding story. Especially when I go through challenges, this perspective shift helps me see them as ‘plot twists’ rather than roadblocks. And when life feels mundane, it reminds me that every scene has meaning.

I even like to imagine my life having its own narrator (it’s Morgan Freeman, obviously). When I’m having a moment of doubt, I imagine his voice narrating my life:
“Little did she know, this decision would change everything…”

Here are some fun ways to turn your life into a movie:

  • See yourself as the main character: Your story is unfolding right now. Make choices that future-you will look back on as defining moments.
  • Imagine your life has a narrator: Pick someone with a voice you love: Fancy British voice like Emma Watson? Iconic voice like Morgan Freeman? Maybe even your future self? Picture them narrating your day like it’s part of an epic story.
  • Think of your challenges as plot twists: If a character in a movie gave up at the first sign of trouble, it wouldn’t be much of a story, amiright? See every obstacle as a necessary turning point in your adventure.
  • Ask what would the audience yell?: If people were watching your life on screen, what would they be shouting at the TV? “No, don’t go!” “Stop texting that person back!” “Say yes!”
  • Create a soundtrack for your life – Music changes everything. Build a playlist that makes your daily moments feel cinematic. Walking to get coffee? That’s a montage scene. Feeling down? Start playing the inspiring comeback song. *ahem* It might be time for you to revisit the Mental Music Montage trick)
  • Romanticize the little things: Treat your daily moments like movie scenes. The way sunlight hits your window. The warmth of your tea. The way a stranger smiled at you. Every moment like this in a movie is usually foreshadowing something – these moments matter in reality, too!

Try this perspective shift for a week and see how it changes the way you experience life. You’re not just going through the motions; you’re living out an incredible story, and you get to decide what happens next. Eeeeek So much fun!

Aaaand ACTION!!

Life’s like a movie, write your own ending. Keep believing. Keep pretending.

On a Personal Note…

If my life right now truly was a movie, I think it would actually be quite entertaining!! There’s a lot of days filled with work, caretaking, and normal life. But then there are days that are just WILD. So much going on these days, it’s hard to even wrap my head around it all. So many beautiful projects blooming, so much growth, and a lot o’ shifts! My narrator is working in overdrive these days! The funny thing is that when I watch movies, I can almost always predict the twists and things that are about to happen… My life right now? No idea. But I suppose that’s what makes it so much fun…anything is possible at this point!

Hoping you all have an amazing week filled with positive twists and turns! xo

Love to you,
