Interacting With Gratitude
We all know that gratitude is powerful. And we’ve all heard a million times about the benefits and importance of writing down your gratitudes in lists or in your journal. But here’s where the trick comes in…
What if, instead of just writing your gratitude list, you actually interacted with it?
- Instead of writing down, “I’m grateful for my morning coffee,” you can wrap your hands around the mug, close your eyes, and actually feel its warmth.
- Instead of writing, “I am grateful for my best friend,” send them a message telling them how much you appreciate them.
- Instead of listing, “I’m thankful for my home,” touch the walls and recognize that this space keeps you safe.
It might feel a little odd, but interacting with what you’re grateful for is so much stronger than simply writing it down. When gratitude becomes something felt, seen, and experienced, it embeds deeper into your reality.
Instead of just recognizing something as ‘good,’ you create a real, emotional connection to it. This strengthens positive neural pathways in your brain, making gratitude a natural reflex rather than just a practice tied to a list. When gratitude becomes your default, it naturally shifts your mood, reduces stress, and invites even more moments of joy into your daily life.
“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”
Robert Brault
On a Personal Note…
Speaking of invisible gratitude… My family just experienced an incredible act of kindness that I am beyond grateful for.
For the past few months, we’ve been helping my stepdad get to doctor’s appointments and physical therapy: loading up his wheelchair, walker, and everything else he needs. With all the snow we’ve been getting (nonstop for days!), it’s been an added challenge. We’ve had to constantly shovel paths just to help him safely get to the car.
Well, today, someone came to our house and plowed extra-wide paths from our driveway to our front steps… and we have no idea who did it! They made it so much easier and safer for all of us. It is a complete mystery, and it absolutely made our day. My heart feels fuller just thinking about it – wish I could give that person a huge hug!
Mysterious acts of kindness like this truly change people’s days in ways they’ll never know.
Love to you,
Andrea
