Create an Oasis of the Mind to always visit for a mental break.
This week’s Magic Monday is another simple – yet powerful – mindset trick. It’s something I’ve been using a lot lately, and it’s all about creating a mental retreat. I call it a personal “Oasis of the Mind.” We face challenges almost every day, and while we know to pause, breathe, and meditate – imagine having a designated mental space where you can retreat anytime you need.
About a year ago, I created my own personal ‘Oasis’ during a mini vipassana. My mental Oasis is a cozy woodland area with a comfy chair, soft lights, stacks of books, and gentle animals around me. This space hasn’t changed much over the past year, and that consistency creates a sense of comfort and safety for me. I know it’s always there when I need a mental break.
It especially helps as I fall asleep! When my mind stays awake thinking about my to-do lists, I mentally transport to my comfy chair, surrounded by my books (and maybe a cute rabbit or two). It instantly relaxes me and pulls me out of the “to-do mode.”
So, take some intentional time to create your own Oasis. Think about the environment. What does it look like? What are the smells, sounds, and textures? What’s the vibe? Is it a place for reading, reflection, or simply relaxation? Let your imagination play for once!
Once you’ve built your Oasis, remember it and visit it whenever you need. It’s your safe, unique space. Maybe even name it! (I call mine my “Moasis” since my nickname is Mo 😉)
If you create an Oasis for your mind, I’d love to hear about it! Feel free to reply to this email and share what it looks like. I hope you find as much comfort in your as I do in mine. 💓
Traveling is not just about experiencing a new destination; it’s about discovering your true self.
On a Personal Note…
Hi, friends! Another big transition coming… I’ve been a nomad for over 7 years and with that comes a lot of moving around – as well as hello’s and goodbye’s. To people, to countries, to experiences. And I’m about to say “See ya later, Vietnam” again as I’m soon heading home for a bit to be with family. Not sure how long and what it will look like, but I’m just trusting the process. Ninh and I have become semi-experienced with long-distance, so we are just flowing with it all. 🙂
I’m really excited to be with family again, lend a helping hand, and reunite with my nieces and nephew! It will also be so strange being COLD again! I haven’t been in a crisp, Fall environment in years! This shall be interesting… 😂
Life is full of twists and turns – it’s never dull! But I’ve always lived by my Gramma’s advice: “Take life day by day.”
See ya later, Vietnam! XO
Love Always,
Andrea
